Everyone's favorite in the
abstract, minipigs are yet another failed fad
pet, dating back to the 1980's. They are extremely smart and can be extraordinary
pets, IF you have nothing else to do all day but be their constant companion.
Our pigs are almost all from
the worst animal abuse case ever reported on Vashon Island. Nine pigs,
living in the most disgusting conditions, malnourished, full of parasites,
and extremely frightened of people, came to BaaHaus in the winter of 2000.
Since then, and thanks in large part to a volunteer who came to be known
as "The
Pig Whisperer," the pigs are happy, pudgy and healthy. It took months
of care and socializing to establish a sense of trust. Even today, Rick
and Fred, the most physically abused pigs, are a bit cautious around people.
