Meet the Birds

Now here is an unexpected segment of our "farm animal" population: exotic
birds. Who knew? Pictured in the Meet the Animals link is Chili Pepper, a Severe Macaw and just as charming in person as he appears here. He was unwanted by a
family that had owned him for almost 20 years.

Some of the birds, such as Lupe, a gorgeous Lutino Indian Ring Neck Parakeet,
are escapees whose owners never claimed them.

Smokey the Canary was turned over to BaaHaus because he would not sing anymore(!). He had nearly died in a kitchen fire (the firemen gave him oxygen
and revived him!), but had not sung a note post-fire. The very same afternoon he came to BaaHaus, he began to sing along with a recording of Gustaf Mahler's Symphony No. 7 in E Minor, "Song of the Night." Read Smokey's story.

Lily the Cockatoo, cockatiels, Bonnie and four other doves, Amazonian parrots,
Conures, more canaries and a finch round out the bird group.
